Yarn-Wrapped Cloud and Rainbow Craft
It’s all the bright, bold, vibrant colors that really get me this time of year. With flowers and pastels and just simply spring in the air. And what better way to really appreciate all those colors than with this fun Cardboard Yarn-Wrapped Cloud and Rainbow Craft!
Great for St. Patrick’s Day, or just a wonderful way to welcome spring, our Cardboard Yarn-Wrapped Cloud and Rainbow Craft is made in two parts. First, the cloud is brought together with a piece of cardboard cut into a wavy cloud shape. We happened to have a white cardboard box lying around, but you can always paint it, too. Then wrap that with white yarn.
For the rainbow, cut the inner part of a sturdy paper plate so there are no raised edges. Then, paint the colors of the rainbow around. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. One paper plate will make 2 rainbows that you can tape or glue onto your yarn-wrapped clouds.

Supplies needed:
- cardboard
- scissors
- white yarn
- sturdy paper plate
- acrylic paints – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet
- clear tape
First, cut the inside circle from the paper plate so there are no raised edges.
Paint the paper plate in circles in the colors of the rainbow. Let dry.
While the rainbow is drying, cut your pieces of cardboard into wavy cloud shapes.
Tape the end of a piece of yarn to the back of one of the clouds. Begin wrapping.
Continue wrapping until you’ve reached the desired effect. Cut and tape the end to stick.
When the rainbow is dry, cut the paper plate in half so you have 2 rainbows. Position one of the rainbows to the top of a yarn-wrapped cloud. Tape or glue in place.
We’ve made a number of rainbow crafts before, like our Pot O’ Gold at the End of the Rainbow Craft and Craft Stick and Paper Plate Rainbow. Though, this Yarn-Wrapped Cloud and Rainbow Craft is definitely one of our favorites and is a great craft to do alongside our Yarn-Wrapped Leprechaun Hats!
