Yarn Wrapped Jack-O-Lantern Craft
We all know a regular jack-o-lantern is an orange pumpkin, carved and cut out. But why be regular? We’re looking beyond the orange with this colorful and cardboard Yarn Wrapped Jack-O-Lantern Craft!
I acquired a few different skeins of multicolor yarn and they have been some of our favorite supplies to craft with recently. We’ve made Yarn Wrapped Bugs, Yarn Wrapped Bears, and now our colorful Yarn Wrapped Jack-O-Lantern Craft!
This Yarn Wrapped Jack-O-Lantern Craft uses a multicolor skein of yarn that has more orange and red in it, unlike the skein used for the Yarn Wrapped Bears which was more blue and purple. Along with the yarn, you’ll also need cardboard, clothespins, brown paint, scissors, glue, and cardstock in black, orange, and green.
Yarn Wrapped Jack-O-Lantern Craft
Supplies needed:
- Yarn, multicolor
- Cardboard
- Cardstock – black, orange, green
- Clothespins
- Brown paint
- Glue
- Scissors
Begin by painting the clothespins brown.
Set aside to dry.
Cut circles from a sheet of cardboard. Any size circles, different sizes. They don’t need to be exact. We used regular shipping boxes.
Cut a slit in the circle. Slide the beginning of yarn into the slit then wrap.
Continue wrapping around the circle until it’s covered with yarn.
Once done, tuck the end of the yarn into the same slit. If you happen to have covered the slit, carefully slide the yarn away and make a new one, or simply tape to secure on back. The clothespin will also keep the yarn secure.
Cut a fairly large simple leaf shape from the green cardstock.
Close the clothespin on the cardstock leaf and the end of the yarn, to keep both in place.
Now cut eyes, a nose, and a mouth shape from the black or orange cardstock. You can always draw your shape out beforehand, then cut out.
Glue the jack-o-lantern face pieces in place.
That’s my kind of colorfully spooky fun! Be sure to check out the rest of our Halloween crafts at Our Kid Things!
