Yarn-Wrapped Leprechaun Hats
When I was trying to think of fun crafts for us to do for St. Patrick’s Day, my mind kept coming back to leprechaun hats. Yes, just their hats. And then the luck shined down upon me! In the same vein as our Yarn-Wrapped Cloud and Rainbow Craft, our green yarn Yarn-Wrapped Leprechaun Hats St. Patrick’s Day Craft is made out of cardboard and a lot of fun, too!
I really love wrapping anything and everything in yarn these days. Especially when I have skeins and skeins that I just don’t know what to do with. I could take up crocheting again, or learn to knit. But instead, I’ll give it to the kids and let them wrap with it.
For our Cardboard Yarn-Wrapped Leprechaun Hats we first need pieces of cardboard. The cardboard has to be big enough to cut a hat shape out of. I contemplated making a template for this, but it’s basically just a long thin rectangle attached to a more square shape. You could also pain this green if you’d like, but we kept it as is. Then, wrap it in green yarn and finish with a strip of black paper and a yellow paper buckle.
Yarn-Wrapped Leprechaun Hats
Supplies needed:
- cardboard
- scissors
- green yarn
- clear tape
- black and yellow cardstock or paper
First, cut your hat shape out of cardboard.
This consists of a long, thin rectangle brim attached to a more square-ish body.
Tape the beginning of a piece of green yarn to the back of the cardboard. Begin wrapping.
Continue until the hat is covered to a desired effect. Finish by cutting the end and taping in place to secure.
Cut a thin strip from the black paper and wrap around just above the brim. Tape or glue in place. Cut a square from the yellow and tape or glue in place, as well.
