Yarn Wrapped Mummy Rocks
Halloween is close at hand. Our pumpkins are sitting on our front steps, the kids are talking about their costumes, we’re looking forward to our local haunted hayride, and we’ve been doing a few more Halloween crafts. These Yarn Wrapped Mummy Rocks are a fun favorite!
A small bit spooky, a smaller bit eery, and all around a fun craft idea to set out for Halloween, these Yarn Wrapped Mummy Rocks are sure to get the kids in the spirit! Paint them, draw on a quick basic eyes and mouth shape with a marker, and wrap in yarn. That’s really all there is for a great Halloween craft!
For our Yarn Wrapped Mummy Rocks you’ll need a set of rocks. Also, acrylic paint. We used a tan color lightened with white. A grey color would also look neat. But when painting, only use a single coat and keep the brush strokes and imperfections. They are mummies, after all. Along with that, black and red markers for the eyes and mouth, white yarn, and a hot glue gun.
Yarn Wrapped Mummy Rocks
Supplies needed:
- stones or rocks
- white yarn
- acrylic paints in tan, white
- black and red marker
- hot glue gun
- scissors
First, paint the rocks.
We combined tan and white for a lighter, antique white kind of color, but you could also do grey. Let dry completely.
Draw circles for the eyes and mouth shapes.
Cut a long piece of white yarn. Hot glue in place on the back of the rock. Begin wrapping around the rock, gluing along the way to secure. Move yarn away from the eyes and mouth so they’re visible. Continue wrapping randomly and gluing until your mummy comes to life.
Now seriously, how cute are they? Yes, I said cute. Maybe this is why I love Halloween so much. Be sure to check out our other super fun Halloween craft and recipe ideas at Our Kid Things!
