Cardboard Tube Yarn Wrapped Dragonfly Craft
We do really love yarn wrapped crafts here. The simple act of wrapping a cardboard roll or tube in yarn and creating something colorful, creative, and beautiful. Just like this Cardboard Tube Yarn Wrapped Dragonfly Craft!
These dragonflies are a take on our Cardboard Roll Yarn Wrapped Bugs Craft, but a bit different in that we’re using paper towel tubes instead of toilet paper rolls. However, if you don’t have any paper towel tubes but have lots of toilet paper rolls then you can just tape two of those together, too.
Dragonflies are such a fun summer craft subject. Be sure to check out our Shiny Pipe Cleaner Dragonflies as well as our Craft Stick Dragonflies.
For our Cardboard Tube Yarn Wrapped Dragonfly Craft you will need paper towel size cardboard tubes, multi-color yarn, foam craft sheets in assorted colors, small googly eyes, glue dots or hot glue, and scissors. If you only have toilet paper size cardboard rolls then you will also need tape.
Cardboard Tube Yarn Wrapped Dragonfly Craft
Supplies needed:
- Cardboard tubes
- Multi-color yarn
- Foam craft sheets – assorted colors
- Googly eyes, small
- Glue dots or hot glue
- Scissors
Begin with a paper towel size cardboard tube.
If you don’t have a paper towel tube, then you can tape two toilet paper size rolls together with clear packing tape.
Now cut a slit on both ends.
Take the start of your yarn and insert into the slit. Begin wrapping.
And wrap all the way down the tube until covered. Once covered insert the other end of the yarn into the other slit. Slightly and gently flatten the tube with your hands so that it will sit flat.
Cut wings from the craft foam. We folded our foam sheets then cut long petal shapes.
Attach the wings together with glue dots or hot glue. The glue dots work, the hot glue would work better. I didn’t want to break out the hot glue this time so we made due with glue dots.
Then attach the wings to the top ⅓ of the tube.
And finally adhere googly eyes.
So fun and cute for summer! Add this as another of our favorite yarn crafts!
