Our Nest Bird Craft
We have a family of birds making a nest right outside our front porch, as a family of birds did last year, as well. Same family? As such, we wanted to make them something to welcome them home. We think they’ll love this Our Nest Bird Craft! Or at least the twine in it, anyway. And it comes with a Free Printable Our Nest Template, too.
This Our Nest Bird Craft is so cute and fun to make! With a colorful mama and baby bird in each, snuggled up close, this could easily turn into a Mother’s Day card. This was actually my intended idea at first. But we liked how it looked as a spring craft that we wanted to hang it up for our bird friends.

For Our Nest Bird Craft you will need the Our Nest template, paper lunch bags, twine, colorful cardstock, small googly eyes, a colored pen, scissors, a glue stick, and regular glue, too. I’ve included the bird sizes on the template, but we used a 2”, 1.5”, and 1” circle paper punch instead.
Our Nest Bird Craft
Supplies needed:
- Our Nest Template
- Paper lunch bags
- Twine
- Cardstock – assorted colors
- Googly eyes, small
- Colored pen
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- School glue
- 2”, 1.5”, 1” circle paper punches (optional)
Get started by printing the template. Cut out the pieces.
Fold a sheet of cardstock in half. At the fold, place the bottom of the nest template. Trace and cut out so that it opens.
Cut strips from the paper bags.
Cut or tear those strips into smaller pieces. Crumple up the pieces with your hand for a bit of texture.
Then, apply glue and position the pieces randomly on the front of the nest. Some pieces should go over the edge.
Cut a few smaller strands of twine.
Glue them across the nest, as well.
Now make the birds by punching or cutting out the circles. You will need a 2” and 1.5” for the mama bird. The other 1.5” and 1” for the baby bird.
Cut the wings in half. Draw some bumpy lines across the wings with a colored pen. We used red.
Glue in place on both the mama and baby bird.
At this point, glue the mama and baby bird on the inside of the nest. As far at the top as they’ll go. Close the nest to see if you need to trim any bag pieces blocking their view.
Once positioned, glue the fold closed. Unless you’re making a card, then skip this step.
Cut and glue small triangles for the beaks.
And finally glue eyes on the birds, too. Small eyes for baby, the next size up for mama.
A beautiful family of birds in their nest! You can, of course, make more baby birds and a daddy bird, too, to complete your own nest.
