Crayon Resist Patriotic Stars
This Crayon Resist Patriotic Stars art project is such a great way to celebrate the upcoming July 4th holiday! We’ve also included a Free Printable Star Template so all you need to do is trace the stars and paint with watercolors!
We had a lot of fun using watercolors to paint our stars. We painted our stars in patriotic stripes and then went random. But the best part of art is making it your own!

Crayon Resist Patriotic Stars
Supplies needed:
- Star Template
- White cardstock
- White crayon
- Watercolors – blue, red
- Scissors
Begin by printing the stars.
We prefer tracing the stars on heavier cardstock and cutting out again, using a color other than white so that we can see where we’re tracing easier. We like using heavy cardstock because it keeps the stars in place easier.
Now trace around the star using a white crayon on the white cardstock.
Use watercolors to paint the paper.
Paint until the paper is covered. Let dry.
Then move on to the next star. Do the same with the little stars as the big star, only you can make more stars along the page with the little star.
And paint with watercolors. We love watercolor paint projects, especially for littler kids, because there’s no way to mess them up. While these watercolor stars are just perfect for any patriotic holiday like Independence Day, you could easily switch up the colors to make them a lovely room decor any time of year instead.
