Easy Bendy Straw Stars
These Easy Bendy Straw Stars are so easy, in fact, that it’s a wonder in all my years I never thought of them before. And with the addition of a string or twine loop, they make a great decoration on the Christmas tree!
When I was a kid, I remember sliding my straws into one another to make them as long as I could. That’s the general idea here, except done with 5 bendy straws bent into a star shape, then wrapped with twine or yarn to secure where the straws meet and overlap. For another great star craft idea be sure to check out our Aluminum Foil Stars!
For these Easy Bendy Straw Stars you will bendy straws in your color of choice. I had this pack of assorted blue colors from another project, so why not use them up before the kids blow themselves out of milk bubbles. Then, twine or yarn. And really, those two supplies with scissors are all you need!
Easy Bendy Straw Stars
Supplies needed:
- plastic bendy straws
- twine or yarn
- scissors
Begin by gathering 5 straws.
Fold the bottom end of one straw and slide it into the top end of another. Slide it as far as you can without breaking.
Continue folding, sliding and bending into a V, then a side V, until a star shape is formed. Slide the final folded end into the top of the first straw.
Gather twine or yarn and begin wrapping around the 5 center meeting points to secure.
We tried wrapping in a number of different ways; just wrapping the connections with twine, randomly wrapping with yarn, and wrapping the connections with yarn then wrapping around the star, too. This is such an easy craft that it’s fun to play around with and see what you can come up with. Just make sure the 5 points are wrapped and secure.
Once the connections are secure and wrapped, you can then add a loop of twine or yarn to hang from a tree or make a star garland.
These Easy Bendy Straw Stars are one of our favorites and I hope they’ll be for you, too! And be sure to find more fun Christmas ideas at Our Kid Things!
