Fall Leaf Butterfly Craft
One of our favorite materials to craft with during the fall season are leaves. There’s just so many beautiful, natural colors and they make the perfect backdrop to everything autumn. We’ve done CD Leaf Turkeys, Clothespin Leaf Turkeys, and Fall Leaf Owls using the leaves as wings. Now, we can add our Fall Leaf Butterfly Craft to the list!
Our Fall Leaf Butterfly Craft is so stunning and vibrant, with the bright colors of fall leaves used for their wings. You can either use real fall leaves from outside, which we always prefer, or for a more permanent fixture the fabric craft leaves work great, too.
The leaves are then glued on paper plates cut for wings. Wrap the middle of the paper plate with a pipe cleaner for the antennae and glue on some colorful poms to finish the butterfly. This is definitely another fall leaf craft to add to our list of favorites!
Fall Leaf Butterfly Craft
Supplies needed:
- white paper plates
- fall leaves or fabric leaves
- small poms, any color
- pipe cleaners, any color
- glue
First, cut a wide “V†shape out of the top half of each paper plate. Then cut an upside down “V†shape out of the bottom half of each paper plate. Make sure to leave about an inch width between the points of the “V’s†so you have an intact butterfly shape. Discard the pieces you cut out.
Take a pipe cleaner and bend it in half around the center of your butterfly and twist it snugly around the plate a few times.
Make sure the open ends are facing up after it is secure. Then just put a little curved bend at the end of each pipe cleaner so they resemble antennas.
Now glue 3-4 leaves on each butterfly wing on each plate.
In the center where the pipe cleaner is wrapped around the plate, glue 3 poms in a line for the butterfly body. Let everything dry for about an hour.
