How to Calm your Pets During Fireworks

A lot of people dread bonfire night. They feel as though it causes their pets nothing but stress and that it also makes it very difficult for them to calm down afterwards as well. Your Pet and Fireworks
Many animals and pets find fireworks scary. 45% of dogs show signs of fear when fireworks are being set off, but it doesn’t need to be this way. There are plenty of simple things that you can do to try and help your pet deal with the fireworks and if you prepare in advance, then you should find that everyone can cope much more efficiently.
How to Calm Dogs During Fireworks
If you want to calm your dogs during firework season, then you simply need to walk them before the fireworks start being set off. Close the windows and the curtains if you can as this will muffle the sound, and also make sure that you put on some music. This will muffle the sound of the fireworks and it will make it even easier for them to stay calm. Creating some hiding places around the home will also help you to make them feel safe, so keep that in mind. You can also invest in some calm treats for dogs as well if you want.
If you have a dog, you can condition them to fireworks by simply treating them every time one goes off. If you do this, you will soon teach them that they are nothing to be afraid of, and when you do this enough, you will soon find that they learn valuable coping mechanisms for the future and you can stop them from being scared anymore too.
Build a Den
Did you know that it is more than possible for you to create a safe den for your dog? If you want to do this, then you simply need to take the time to create a bed, with a chew toy. If your dog has a crate, then this is even better. You can simply put a blanket over the crate to make it dark, fill a toy up with some tasty treats such as banana or peanut butter and then leave them to it. Cats can become stressed if they are out during fireworks, so make sure that you keep them indoors. It’s also helpful to microchip your cat in case they become startled and try to escape outdoors.
Smaller Animals
Partially cover any cages or pens with a blanket. The great thing about doing this is that it will help with soundproofing and it will also keep them safe. Bedding should be provided for smaller animals as this allows them to burrow. You should also try and bring any outdoor animals, indoors. This will need to be done over time if they are used to being outside, so make sure that you keep this in mind.
