Cardboard Roll Heart Owls
This is a sponsored post.
Raising kids in this day and age, it’s important that they understand just how vital it is to take care of our environment. There are so many different ways that we can reduce our carbon footprint, from walking to our destinations when possible to picking up litter and recycling to learning about sustainable energy from Douglas Healy. However we decide to be better to our Earth, we should always do our part.
One little way that we do our part is to use plenty of recyclable materials in our daily crafts, to further the life of the material and make new play things. We’ve used plastic bottles before for things like our Plastic Bottle Flowers Craft and this Water Bottle Piggy Bank. We’ve also used milk jugs for our Milk Jug Flower Craft. Newspaper, soda can tabs for our Soda Tab Necklace Craft, and cardboard boxes are also favorite supplies to craft with.
The one item we use most of all, however, are cardboard rolls. Now you can actually buy “unused” cardboard rolls, but then that’s not reusing and repurposing what you have on hand. Cover the roll in paint or yarn, and it eliminates any idea of ickiness there might be. That said, we’ve made our Handprint Butterfly Craft, Yarn Wrapped Bug Craft, Cardboard Roll Rocket Ships, and so many more, all from cardboard rolls.
The below Cardboard Roll Heart Owl Craft is yet another craft made from a cardboard roll, complete with a Free Printable Template. And they have cute little hearts, which makes them perfect as a Valentine’s Day craft, too. You can either make the heart with colorful craft paper, or use paint to make your own colorful paper and cut the heart from it.
Aside from the printable template, cardboard roll, and craft paper, the remainder of the supplies for our Cardboard Roll Heart Owls Craft include colorful markers or pens, scissors, and glue.

Supplies needed:
- Free Printable Template
- Cardboard Roll
- Colorful Craft Paper
- Scissors
- Paper Glue
- Colorful Marker Pens
To make the cardboard roll owls, first, you’ll need to collect all the materials from the list above.
Then use the PDF templates to cut out the pieces for the owl. Measure your cardboard roll’s height and circumference to cut out a craft paper to wrap the tissue paper roll will.
Use the colorful craft paper to wrap the cardboard roll and glue the paper on the cardboard roll. Or you can also simply paint the roll. Allow the glue to dry.
Then glue the heart on the bottom part of the roll. Leave about a one or two-centimetre gap on the bottom.
Press the top side of the cardboard roll downwards. This will give a flat base on the middle and two pointed sid on both sides. Then glue the beak of the owl one or two centimetres above the heart shape.
Then glue the eyes of the owl on the top. Allow the glue to dry.
Finish it off by glueing the wings of the owl.
