Paint Splatter Clay Pots

Mornings are hard. They may be new and bright, but sometimes you’d just rather be in bed. There are a few ways that I make it easier, though. I need peace to start my day, so I try to wake up at least an hour before anyone else. I gather my laptop, open what needs to be done, and begin to work as best I can until my eyes return to focus. And coffee. None of this is possible without coffee. As of late, it’s been Folgers Simply Gourmet.
Available in the coffee aisle at Walmart, we grabbed a 10oz bag of Folgers Simply Gourmet Chocolate. Because chocolate and coffee are two of my favorite things. There’s also Caramel, Cinnamon, and Vanilla flavors in 10oz bags, too.

This rich tasting new line of coffee from Folgers is made with real ingredients. In fact, Folgers Simply Gourmet starts with 100% Arabica coffee beans that are then paired with natural flavors. The result is a delightfully rewarding cup of coffee to start your day right.
Or get you through the afternoon, whatever the case may be. Because as the kids wake up and work becomes harder to accomplish through the noise and chaos of a house in motion, I’m bound to need some me time. That calls for a clear head and another cup of Folgers Simply Gourmet, usually outside on my back deck where I can lose myself in the peace of nature for a moment. Only then can Super Mom return and we can get back to the business of playing.
This time, we’re making Paint Splatter Clay Pots for our garden!
Paint splatter is an absolute favorite activity of ours. We’ve made these darling Paint Splatter Monster Puppets in the past, which have been a huge hit, as well as a few other paint splatter crafts. I thought these clay pots would be the perfect canvas for this fun technique!

As the name suggests, though, paint splattering can be messy. Even outside. So before you begin on your Paint Splatter Clay Pots, I suggest laying down a sheet of newspaper or an old plastic tablecloth. And take another drink of coffee. You may need it.

Apply a layer of white paint to each clay pot. Let that dry. Then, load up a brush with the colors of your choice, we chose bright summer colors with a lot of yellow, orange, red, purple, and green. And begin flicking, whacking, swinging, however you can get the paint to fly onto the pot! That’s what makes it fun, and completely unique.

Once you’re finished with your Paint Splatter Clay Pots, a spray of clear acrylic will help seal the colors in place. The now colorful pots are perfect for a bright, equally vibrant summer flower. These are going around my patio table, so I can enjoy them while I’m drinking my coffee.
Paint Splatter Clay Pots
Supplies needed:
- clay pots
- acrylic paints – white, yellow, orange, red, purple, green
- large foam brush
- paintbrushes
- paper towel & paper plate
- clear spray acrylic
- newspaper or old plastic tablecloth
Start by laying down a sheet of newspaper or old plastic tablecloth. Place pots in center. Take a large foam brush and begin painting each pot with white paint. Let dry.

Dollop your acrylic colors on a paper plate. Flip clay pot over so the bottom is on top. Take a paintbrush and load it up with one color of paint. Begin splattering by flicking, whacking, swinging, whatever technique works for you.

Repeat with other colors until you achieve the desired look. Let dry. Spray with a layer of clear acrylic to seal.

Add a vibrant summer flower to brighten up your patio, porch, or deck. Then go ahead and reward yourself with another sip of Folgers Simply Gourmet. It’s OK, you deserve it.
