Cardboard Roll Chewbacca Craft

Behind Darth Vader, my favorite Star Wars character has always been Chewbacca. He may even be ahead of Darth Vader. So of course we had to make a Chewbacca craft for Star Wars Day, and this Cardboard Roll Chewbacca Craft is so, so fun!

Cardboard Roll Chewbacca Craft

The main part of this Chewbacca craft is the cardboard roll. For all the other pieces, we’ve included a Free Printable Chewbacca Template to make it all easier. Then just put it all together and you have the sweetest little Chewbacca craft for May the 4th!

Star Wars Chewbacca Craft

To make our cardboard roll Chewbacca you will first need to print our Chewbacca template.

Craft supplies needed.

The rest of the supplies are toilet paper size cardboard rolls, craft paper in brown, black, and silver, small googly eyes, a black sharpie, scissors, and glue. Our cardboard rolls were white, so we also used brown paint to paint our rolls, but if yours are already brown then you can obviously skip that step.

Chewbacca Cardboard Roll Craft Supplies Needed

  • Chewbacca Template
  • Cardboard rolls
  • Craft paper – brown, black, silver
  • Googly eyes, small
  • Black sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Brown paint (optional)

Cardboard Roll Chewbacca Craft Step by Step Directions

If your cardboard rolls need to be painted brown, then do this step first.

Trace and cut out template pieces.

Then, print the Chewbacca template and cut out the pieces. Trace and cut out the head from brown paper, the strip from black paper, and the 3 small rectangles out of silver or gray. Do not use cardstock, as it won’t lay flat against the cardboard roll as easily. A thin craft or construction paper works best.

Wrap and glue black strip around cardboard roll.

Now, wrap and glue the black strip around the cardboard roll starting from the top and ending up near the bottom.

Front of black strip.
Glue 3 gray strips to black strips.

Glue the three small rectangles against the front of the black strip.

Add googly eyes. Draw simple nose and mouth with black sharpie.

Next, add small googly eyes to the head piece. Use the black marker to draw a simple nose and mouth.

Glue head to top of cardboard roll.

Finally, glue the head to the top of the cardboard roll. We used glue dots for this step.
