You will also need cardstock in green and other assorted colors, markers in the same, small-medium googly eyes, scissors, and a glue stick.
Handprint Cactus Craft Supplies Needed
- Cactus Template
- Cardstock – green, black, yellow, orange, purple, other assorted colors
- Markers – green, red, black, other assorted colors
- Googly eyes, small-medium
- Scissors
- Glue stick
Cinco de Mayo Cactus Step by Step Directions
Begin by printing the cactus template and cut out the pieces.

Trace the cactus stalk on green cardstock. The handprint will need to be traced on the same green cardstock. Try to make the pinky finger and thumb more extended from the 3 middle fingers, which need to be closer together.

Cut out both the stalk and handprint.

Glue the stalk to the front center of the handprint. If all goes well, the thumb and pinky will be the arms on the cactus and the other 3 fingers should be mostly hidden by the stalk.

Now, use a green marker to draw a few lines on the cactus and then draw small v shapes along the lines to mimic thorns.

Next, trace the sombrero and flowers on your color cardstock of choice and cut out. Trace the mustache on black cardstock and cut it out.

Decorate the sombrero however you’d like with markers. Use the markers to color in the center of the flowers, too.

Then, add googly eyes and make your cactus however you’d like.

We also made female cactuses using googly eyes with eyelashes and the flowers. For the cactuses without a mustache, we drew on simple mouths with markers, too.

These handprint cactuses are ready for their Cinco de Mayo fiesta! And we are, too!
