Tape Resist Easter Egg Painting

We have such a fun Easter paint project to share with you today! If you’re looking for a new way to get creative then you will love this Tape Resist Easter Egg Painting Activity. We had a blast making these!

To make, you’ll first need our Free Printable Egg Template. Then grab some masking or washi tape. We used washi tape, because I have lots in all different sizes. Make a design on your egg with the tape, paint in the open spaces, remove the tape to reveal, and the result is such a pretty, colorful egg, almost like a suncatcher effect.

Cut out the egg.

Begin placing tape across egg.

Now, grab some tape. Use tape in different widths. Also get your paints ready. We painted in  bright shades of pink, blue, green, yellow, orange, and purples.

Apply strips of tape in random directions across the egg. Make sure the tape is long enough to have flaps hanging from the edge. This will make taking the tape off a lot easier.

Place tape across egg.

Use different widths of tape for more interest on your egg. But the more tape you use, the smaller the gaps to paint will be.

Paint inside blocks.

Now it’s time to starting painting in the open spaces. A smaller paintbrush is best for staying in the lines.

Continue until blocks are all painted.

Continue painting the blocks in all different colors.

Once painted, carefully remove tape.

Once your egg is fully painted, begin carefully taking off the tape.

Remove tape.

Grab a flap and carefully lift to remove. Some of the tape will be overlapped, so you’ll need to remove the top layers first.

When all the tape is removed, it’s time to marvel at your painted Easter egg masterpiece!
