Cardboard Roll Stamped Caterpillar Craft

Since we’ve started crafting, so long ago, I have a habit of saving our cardboard rolls. There’s just so many craft projects you can make with them. One such project is to use them as stamps for our Cardboard Roll Stamped Caterpillar Craft.

Our caterpillars in this spring caterpillar craft are slowly inching their way across large leaves, basically the size of a whole sheet of cardstock. Yes, we have a Free Printable Leaf Template for those, too!

To make our stamped caterpillars craft you will first need our leaf template. The remainder of the supplies include cardboard rolls, green cardstock, acrylic paint in bright colors, green and silver markers, small googly eyes, glue, and scissors.

Stamped Spring Caterpillar Craft Step by Step Directions

Begin by printing our leaf template.

Cut leaf from green cardstock.

Trace the leaf on green cardstock. We made many caterpillars using different shades of green leaves. Cut out the leaf.

Draw veins on leaf with green marker.

Use a green marker to make veins along the leaf. We used metallic markers.

Pour bright colors of paint on a paper plate.

Now, pour some bright colors of paint on a paper plate. You can use a single color, which makes it easier when blending at the next steps, or multi-colors.

Dip cardboard roll in paint.

Dip one end of a cardboard in the paint.

Stamp circles on the leaf with the cardboard roll.

Then begin stamping your caterpillar on the leaf.

Stamp 5 circles.

Five circles makes a nice caterpillar.

Go in with your finger before paint is dry and blend color toward the center of each circle.

Yellow caterpillar body.

Before the paint is dry on your caterpillar, go back in with your finger and blend the colors towards the center of each circle. When doing this with very little ones, you can always go back in after the circle is dry and fingerpaint to fill in the color. Let the paint dry completely.

Add googly eyes and draw antennae with a silver metallic marker.

Finally, when the paint is dry, add googly eyes and draw on a pair of antennae with a silver or other metallic marker.

Make caterpillars with different colors, too.

Now all that’s left is to make more caterpillars in all the different spring colors.
