Mother’s Day Kangaroo Craft

Our mama and baby Mother’s Day Kangaroo Craft is the cutest craft to make for mom on her day. The baby kangaroo is protected all nice and snug next to mama, like real kangaroos do. And like real moms do, too.

We have a Free Printable Kangaroo Template for all the pieces of this craft. Then you just need to trace and glue together. For another idea, it would also be cute to put a small picture of mom’s real kids in the pouch, in lieu of the baby kangaroo.

Mom and Baby Kangaroo Craft

To make our kangaroo craft for Mother’s Day you will first need to print the kangaroo template. Cardstock, markers, glue, and scissors complete the supplies. Though you will also need a pencil to trace the template pieces.

Mother’s Day Kangaroo Craft Supplies Needed

  • Kangaroo Template
  • Cardstock – assorted colors
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Pencil – to trace the template

Kangaroo Mother’s Day Craft Step by Step Directions

Select 2 or 3 different shades of the same colored cardstock. We’re using orange cardstock, but you can also use brown or grey for the kangaroo craft. The template includes patterns for the mother kangaroo, the baby kangaroo and a heart.

Trace and cut out template.

Trace the template patterns on the chosen cardstock and cut them out.

Attach inner ears and glue small nose in place.

Attach the inner ear cutouts on the outer ear cutouts and attach the nose cutout on the pointy tip of the head part.

Glue ears to top of head.

Now, glue the ear patterns on the top side of the head part.

Glue eyes in place.

Attach the eye cutouts along the top part of the head. Use sharpie or gel pen to fill the eye base cutouts.

Glue legs on either side of body.

Next, attach the leg cutouts on both sides of the kangaroo base cutout. Apply glue around the round edge of the pocket cutout, keeping the top end of the pocket intact.

Glue edges of pocket to body.

Glue the pocket cutout with the kangaroo base, near the top bottom side, between the legs.

Draw mouth and cheek with markers.

Use a sharpie to draw the mouth of the papercraft kangaroo. Attach the hand cutout on both sides of the base.

Glue the pieces together for the kangaroo baby.

Trace, cut out and attach the head and body parts to complete the baby kangaroo figures. Cut out the heart shape as well.

Glue heart on pocket and insert baby kangaroo.

Finally, glue the heart shape on the pocket and insert the baby kangaroo inside the pocket to complete the craft.

Instructions
