One of the best things about this craft, besides it being so cute, is that kids can color and make their paper plate Easter egg however they’d like, in whatever colors and design. It’s a great chance to get creative. For the actual chick itself, we have a Free Printable Template for that!

Easter Egg Hatching Chick Craft

To make our Paper Plate Hatching Chick Craft you will first need our free printable template to get the size of the chick.

Craft supplies needed.

You’ll also need paper plates, acrylic paint in your choice of colors, metallic markers, yellow and orange cardstock, medium sized googly eyes, scissors, and a glue stick.

  • Chick Oval Template
  • Paper plates
  • Acrylic paint – your choice of colors
  • Cardstock – orange, yellow
  • Metallic markers
  • Googly eyes, medium
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

Hatching Easter Chick Step by Step Directions

Begin by painting the bottom side of a paper plate in your choice of colors.

Paint the bottom side of a paper plate.

Once painted, let it dry completely.

Print, trace, and cut out oval template.

While the paint is drying, print the chick oval template and cut it out. Trace the template on yellow cardstock. Cut out.

Cut paper plate in half using large jagged cuts.

Now, with the paint dry, cut the paper plate in half using large jagged cuts.

Decorate with markers.

Decorate the paper plate with markers. You could also use stickers, whatever you’d like. You could also do this step before you cut, whatever way is easiest.

Make sure yellow cardstock is showing in middle.

Glue the bottom of the oval to the bottom half of the paper plate. Glue the top to the top half of the paper plate. The end result should have some of the yellow chick peeking out from the middle.

Cut a triangle beak.
Add googly eyes and beak.

Finally, add googly eyes. Also, cut a fairly large triangle beak out of orange cardstock and glue that in place, as well.
