How adorable is this Paper Plate Hatching Chick Craft for Easter? With the baby chick hatching out of a decorated Easter egg, it’s a pretty gosh dang adorable Easter craft, I’d say. So easy, too.

One of the best things about this craft, besides it being so cute, is that kids can color and make their paper plate Easter egg however they’d like, in whatever colors and design. It’s a great chance to get creative. For the actual chick itself, we have a Free Printable Template for that!

Easter Egg Hatching Chick Craft
To make our Paper Plate Hatching Chick Craft you will first need our free printable template to get the size of the chick.

You’ll also need paper plates, acrylic paint in your choice of colors, metallic markers, yellow and orange cardstock, medium sized googly eyes, scissors, and a glue stick.
Paper Plate Hatching Chick Easter Craft Supplies Needed
- Chick Oval Template
- Paper plates
- Acrylic paint – your choice of colors
- Cardstock – orange, yellow
- Metallic markers
- Googly eyes, medium
- Scissors
- Glue stick
Hatching Easter Chick Step by Step Directions
Begin by painting the bottom side of a paper plate in your choice of colors.

Once painted, let it dry completely.

While the paint is drying, print the chick oval template and cut it out. Trace the template on yellow cardstock. Cut out.

Now, with the paint dry, cut the paper plate in half using large jagged cuts.

Decorate the paper plate with markers. You could also use stickers, whatever you’d like. You could also do this step before you cut, whatever way is easiest.

Glue the bottom of the oval to the bottom half of the paper plate. Glue the top to the top half of the paper plate. The end result should have some of the yellow chick peeking out from the middle.

Finally, add googly eyes. Also, cut a fairly large triangle beak out of orange cardstock and glue that in place, as well.

Such a cute Easter chick craft! We had a lot of fun making ours and hope you do, too!
