Spooky, spooky skeletons! Except our Cardboard Roll Skeleton Craft won’t send shivers down your spine, they’re just super fun! While the main body is made with a toilet paper size cardboard roll, we’ve included a Free Printable Skeleton Template for the other pieces needed.

This is not only a colorful, spirited craft for Halloween, but our skeletons are also a great Day of the Dead craft, too, for kids learning about this Mexican holiday. It’s a two-for-one and all kinds of fun! Make yours in a rainbow of colors like we did, or go traditional and make your skeleton white.

Toilet Paper Roll Skeleton Craft

For our cardboard roll skeletons, you’ll first need our skeleton template.

Cardboard Roll Skeletons

You’ll also need toilet paper size cardboard rolls, acrylic paint in your choice of colors, cardstock in matching colors, a black marker, scissors, and a glue stick.

  • Skeleton Template
  • Cardboard rolls
  • Acrylic paint – your choice of colors
  • Cardstock – matching to paint colors
  • Black marker
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

Colorful Skeleton Craft Step by Step Directions

Begin by painting a cardboard roll in your choice of colors.

Paint cardboard roll.

Let the paint dry completely.

Skeleton template.

While the paint is drying, print the skeleton template and cut out the pieces. Trace the pieces on cardstock in a matching color to the paint used. Purple cardstock with purple paint, etc. Cut out the pieces.

Glue skull shape to neck.

Glue the skull to the short rectangle neck piece.

Draw skull face with black marker.

Use a black marker to draw a simple face for the skull.

Cut strips in half.

Now, cut the long strips in roughly half.

Glue strips back together, bent.

Glue the strips back together so it looks like the pieces are bent at the elbow or knee, depending.

Glue skull and neck to back of cardboard roll.

Next, once the paint is dry, glue the neck to the inside back of the cardboard roll.

Make snips at top and bottom of roll.

Make two snips about an inch in length, one on each side, at the top and bottom of the cardboard roll.

Insert arms into snips.

Insert the arms into the two snips at the top.

Insert legs into bottom snips.
Skeleton.

Then lastly, insert the legs into the two snips at the bottom to complete your spirited, spooky, spooky skeletons! Though not very spooky, really, only colorful and fun.

Create a super fun skeleton craft for Halloween or Day of the Dead with a cardboard roll
