When I think of Cinco de Mayo, I think of all the colors. The day itself is so bright and vibrant, with lots of textures and, at least here in the USA, it’s a fun and great way to celebrate Mexican culture. So it needs lots of colorful decorations, and kids will love decorating and creating these fun Cinco de Mayo flower wreaths.

Cinco de Mayo Paper Plate Flower Wreath Craft

For our paper plate flower wreaths you will need paper plates, tissue paper in assorted colors, scissors, and glue. So easy and so pretty!

Craft supplies needed.

Cinco de Mayo Flower Wreath Craft Supplies Needed

  • Paper plates
  • Tissue paper – assorted colors
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Paper Plate Flower Wreath Craft Step by Step Directions

Firstly, gather a paper plate and scissors.

Cut inner circle from paper plate.

Have an adult carefully insert a pair of scissors into the center of the paper plate and cut out the inside of the plate, leaving the outside ring.

Cut tissue paper into circles.

Now, gather all your colors of tissue paper. You will need numerous assorted colors, the more colors the better. Cut the tissue paper into circles. They do not need to be perfect circles, nor do they need to be any specific size. 

Place a ring of glue around paper plate, scrunch tissue paper, and place in glue.

Next, apply a ring of glue around the paper plate. Simply scrunch a circle of the tissue paper in the center and place the center in the glue. The edges should be free and still poofed up.

Continue scrunching and gluing around plate.

Continue gluing more scrunched up circles of tissue paper around the paper plate ring.

Apply dots of glue in flowers.

When the ring is full, apply dots of glue in the center of the already placed tissue paper.

2nd layer of tissue paper.

Continue scrunching the tissue paper and add another layer.

3rd layer of tissue paper for flwoers.

Then add one more layer, for 3 total layers of tissue paper.

Cut simple leaf shapes from green tissue paper and glue around ring.
Leaves glued around ring.

Lastly, we cut leaf shapes out of green tissue paper and glued a few leaves in any open areas of the wreath.

A super bright and colorful wreath craft for Cinco de Mayo with flowers made from tissue paper

Materials

  • Paper plates
