Clothespin Dragonfly Craft
Today, we’re sharing a summer craft that’s great for older kids. Because tweens and teens like to craft, too. In fact, this quite lovely, and rather simple, Clothespin Dragonfly Craft would be a great summer decoration hanging in their room.

Of course, you could make this craft with younger kids, as well, but they would need supervision and some help both taking the clothespins apart, as well as using hot glue. But they could definitely get in there to paint them and make their dragonflies their own.

Summer Clothespin Dragonfly Craft
All you’ll need for this dragonfly craft are regular wooden clothespins, acrylic paints in white and three different shades of whatever colors you choose, as well as a glue gun.

Clothespin Dragonfly Craft Supplies Needed
- Wooden clothespins
- Acrylic paint – white, three different shades of whatever colors you choose
- Glue gun
Dragonfly Clothespin Craft Step by Step Directions
Begin by gathering 10 full size regular wooden clothespins for each dragonfly.

Remove the metal spring from each clothespin.

For each dragonfly, attach six clothespins together flat side to flat side with a glue gun and glue sticks. Leave the other four clothespins as two separate pieces.

Next, glue two of the attached clothespins together for the dragonfly body. Line up each wing as follows on your work surface: half, full, half, half, full, half. Attach the wings together evenly at the base with a glue gun and glue sticks. You can use the photo as your guide.

Glue the wings to the right and left side of the dragonfly body, using the photo as your guide. Hold the first wing in place until the glue completely sets, and then attach the second wing.

Next, paint the front and all sides of both clothespin dragonflies with white acrylic paint. Let dry completely.

Paint the dragonfly bodies with the darkest shade of your chosen paint colors with a paintbrush. We’re using purple and blue. Set aside to dry.

Apply the lightest shade of your paint color to the dragonfly wings with a paintbrush. Let dry.

Paint the tips of the dragonfly wings with the medium shade of your paint color, feathering the edges in to blend the colors. Let dry.

Finally, embellish the dragonfly body with polka dots in the medium shade of your paint color by dipping the end of a paint brush in paint and dotting on the surface. Repeat this polka dot accent with the darkest shade of paint on the end of the wings.

You could create a rainbow assortment of Clothespin Dragonflies to hang in a room, either from the ceiling or as garland. You could also affix them to the wall with some command strips for a gorgeous summer decoration.
