Accordion Fold Paper Pufferfish Craft
If I was forced to name my favorite ocean creature, it would be a tough call, but pufferfish would be high on the list. Thus, it only makes sense that we made another fun pufferfish craft. I gotta say, our Accordion Fold Paper Pufferfish Craft is super fun and so cute. There’s a reason they’re up there on my list.

There’s something really nice about accordion fold paper crafts. It’s the texture and dimension. It’s that same texture that makes it perfect for pufferfish. Add a couple big eyes, a circle mouth, and some fins, of course, and your pufferfish is ready for the sea.

Accordion Folded Paper Pufferfish Craft
To make our paper pufferfish you will need construction paper in your colors of choice. You will need two colors for each pufferfish, one for the body and another for the fins.

You’ll also need large googly eyes, white paper, markers, scissors, and glue. We also used two different circle hole punches, a 2” hole punch and 1” hole punch, to help make our pufferfish mouths.
Accordion Fold Pufferfish Craft Supplies Needed
- Construction paper – your colors of choice
- White paper
- Googly eyes, large
- Markers – metallic or white
- Scissors
- Glue
- Circle hole punch – 2” and 1”
Paper Pufferfish Craft Step by Step Directions
Begin with a sheet of construction paper for the main pufferfish body. The thinner construction paper works best for this craft, as you can maneuver it easier.

Cut the sheet of construction paper in half.

Now, place the construction paper vertically and begin folding accordion-style. Top, bottom, top bottom, and so on. The folds should be about an inch or so.

Once the construction paper is folded, apply glue to one side and fold the construction paper in half onto itself. Squeeze and hold for a moment to secure.

Do the same for the other piece of construction paper. You should now have shapes that resemble two paper fans.

Glue one side of one to a side of the other. Squeeze and hold to secure.

Then, gently open and glue the final sides together. Again, hold for a moment to secure.

Next, add large googly eyes. The self-adhesive kind works great for this craft.

Also, add a mouth out of white paper. We used two different circle paper punches to help with our mouths. We used a 2” at first, then used a 1” to make a hole inside the 2” and trimmed the excess. You could either do it this way, make your own by simply cutting it out freehand, or just use a full 1” circle.

Lastly, cut out two fin shapes from your other color of construction paper.

Use either a metallic marker, we used silver and gold, or a white paint pen to draw detail lines on the fin.

Glue the fins in place along the sides of the pufferfish. Let all the glue dry completely.

Why do I love pufferfish? This is a good representation of why. So cute!
