These graduation caps are a fun way to celebrate your graduate, and also a great decor piece, too. Because you gotta celebrate! Why not get everyone involved and make some fun, handmade crafts for the occasion? That seems to be my answer for everything, though.

Graduation Cap Cardboard Roll Craft

To make our graduation caps you will need toilet paper size cardboard rolls, black acrylic paint, black cardstock, yellow yarn, a 1” circle paper punch, a glue stick, and scissors.

Graduation Cap Decor Craft Supplies Needed

  • Cardboard roll
  • Black acrylic paint
  • Black cardstock
  • Yellow yarn
  • 1” circle paper punch
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors

Cardboard Roll Graduation Cap Craft Step by Step Directions

Begin with a clean toilet paper size cardboard roll.

Paint cardboard roll black.

Paint the cardboard roll black. Let the paint dry completely.

Cut 2 3/4 inch square of black cardstock.

While the paint is drying, cut a square from the black cardstock. Our square was about 2 3/4″ and that worked well.

Make about 5 loops of yarn.

Now, gather some yellow yarn and make about 5 loops. You will want the yarn loops roughly 4 inches in length.

Make a knot on one end of the yarn.

Make a knot on one end of the yarn, about an inch into the yarn, so one end is longer than the other. We knotted ours twice.

Cut away but one strand on longer end.
Yarn tassle.

On the longer end, cut away all but one of the strands of yarn.

Punch 1 inch circle from black cardstock.

Punch a 1” circle from the black cardstock.

Glue long strand of yarn to center of black square with black circle on top.

Glue the long strand of yarn to the center of the black square and glue the black circle on top.

Cut cardboard roll in half.

Lastly, once the paint is fully dry, cut the cardboard roll in half.

Glue black square to top of cardboard roll.

Glue the black square to the top of the cardboard roll.

A simple graduation cap decor craft made from cardboard rolls

Materials
