Easy Paper Plate School Bus Craft

One of the most exciting parts of starting school is getting to ride on a school bus. For the kids who are eager to get on that bus, get them ready and familiar with this fun and Easy Paper Plate School Bus Craft!

This can be used for a back to school craft, “The Wheels on the Bus” activity, a transportation activity, or as a fun craft for beginning bus riders. Kids can write the number of their bus on the paper plate school bus as a fun way to remember their bus number.

Easy Bus Paper Plate Craft

To make this easy bus craft you will need paper plates, black construction paper, yellow acrylic paint, scissors, and glue

Craft supplies needed.

You will also need something to trace two small black circles for the wheels. We used a circle cookie cutter in this instance, but a 2” circle paper punch would work, or trace the rim of a small glass.

  • Paper plates
  • Black construction paper
  • Yellow acrylic paint
  • Circle cookie cutter
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Easy School Bus Craft Step by Step Directions

Begin by cutting a paper plate in half.

Cut paper plate in half.

You can either fold the paper plate in half, or just eyeball it. You will only need one of the halves. Put the other half aside for another bus or separate project.

Paint paper plate.

Paint the remaining paper plate yellow. Let dry completely. 

Trace circles for wheels.

While the paint is drying, trace two circles on the black construction paper. Using a white pencil makes the marks easier to see. 

Cut out circles.

Cut out the circles along the lines.

Cut squares from black paper for windows.

Next, cut out three black squares for the school bus windows.

Cut front corner from paper plate.

Now, when the paint is dry, cut out a corner of the paper plate as shown to create the front portion of the school bus. Discard the small cut out piece. 

Glue circles in place.

Glue the two black wheels to the bottom of the paper plate along the straight line.

Glue windows in place.

Finally, glue the squares in place for windows to complete this easy back to school craft.
