Paper Bag Mermaid Craft

It may not be summer just yet where we are, but that doesn’t mean we’re not dreaming of sunshine and mermaids. You can do more than dream of mermaids, though, you can make your own with this adorable Paper Bag Mermaid Craft.

Paper Bag Mermaid Craft

To make our mermaid craft you will first need to print the mermaid template. You will also need a brown paper lunch bag, cardstock in your choice of colors, a markers, glue, and scissors.

Craft supplies needed.

Mermaid Paper Bag Craft Supplies Needed

  • Mermaid Template
  • Paper bag
  • Cardstock – assorted colors
  • Markers – assorted colors, black
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Mermaid Craft Step by Step Directions

Begin by printing the template.

Cut out template pieces.

Now, select cardstock in your choice of colors for the paper bag mermaid’s skin, hair, tail and other patterns. Trace the template patterns on the selected cardstock and cut them out. Use a marker to fill the eyes on the eye base cutout. 

Use sharpie to draw scallops on tail.

Take the lower body patterns (tail base, tail fin and waist-line). Use a marker to draw scalloped texture on the tail base cutout. 

Glue tail pieces together.

Attach the tail fin cutout on the narrow end of the tail base and attach the waist-line cutout.

Carefully cut slit along bangs and insert head shape.

Carefully cut slit along the line inside the hair cutout. Insert the top end of the head through the slit from below.

Glue head shape into place.

Keeping the top side of the slit to the front side of the head, join the head and hair cutouts with glue.

Glue eyes in place.

Attach the eye cutouts along the top part of the head, below the bangs.

Use a black sharpie to draw a simple nose and mouth.

Use a black marker to draw the nose and mouth of the papercraft mermaid figure. Also add cheek pieces.

Glue top to body cutout.

Attach the top cutout on the upper body cutout.

Attach the lower body pattern along the bottom side of the upper body pattern.

Grab a paper bag.

Next, grab a paper bag.

Glue body to front of paper bag.

Attach the body pattern of the mermaid to the front of the bag.

Glue the head pattern on the flattened bottom side.

Glue star to hair.

Finally. trace and cut out a flower pattern and attach it to the hair of the mermaid.
