Uncle Sam 4th of July Craft Step by Step Directions
Begin by printing the Uncle Sam template and cut out the pieces.

We used skin tone cardstock for the head, ears and hand patterns and brown cardstock for the shoes. The base, hat, and beard were kept white. We then used blue felt for the coat pattern. Trace and cut out all the pieces.

Now, take the red pipe cleaner and twist bow tails around the middle part of the bow to secure the bow shape. You can trim off the excess ends.

Glue the ear pieces on both sides of the head shape and cut a slit between the top and the brim of the hat cutout.

Add the hat band on the hat cutout, right above the slit. Glue the stars on the band.

Next, cut some small strands of yarns to cover the paper beard cutout.

Glue the yarn cutouts on the paper beard cutout, making sure that the strands are glued adjacent to each other. Trim the extra sides of the attached yarn along the paper beard layout. Also, cut out small yarn strands for the hair.

Glue the hair yarn strands on both sides of the head’s top part.

At this point, use a red sharpie to draw red vertical stripes on the top part of th hat.

Insert the top side of the head through the hat slit from below and glue the head to the hat.

Add googly eyes to the face. Use a black sharpie to draw the nose and mouth.

Then, use a red sharpie to draw striped patterns on the trouser part of the base cutout.

Now, it’s time to glue it all together. Glue the hands in place and do the same with the shoes.

Glue the coatpieces on both sides of the top of the base pattern.

Add a small square cutout for the neck on the top, middle part of the base.

Glue the pipe cleaner bow below the neck and glue the pompoms as buttons.

Finally, glue the head pattern on the neck. Let the glue dry.

It seems like a lot of steps, but it’s mostly all cut and paste. The final result is such a great mixed media Uncle Sam craft, perfect for July 4th!
