Yarn Wrapped Hot Air Balloon Craft
What can I say, I’m a sucker for any and all crafts wrapped in yarn. Like this Yarn Wrapped Hot Air Balloon Craft. It doesn’t get much better. The multicolor skeins are truly some of my most favorite things.
Not only does the colorful yarn give our hot air balloons a fun texture and also puff them from the surface almost in a 3D effect, but wrapping with yarn is great for toddler and preschoolers working those fine motor skills.
Make a Hot Air Balloon with Yarn
To make our Yarn Wrapped Hot Air Balloon you will first need cardboard. We used an empty cereal box, but something even sturdier, like a shipping box, would work great, too.
Along with the cardboard, you will also need multicolor yarn, a brown marker, scissors, and a glue stick.

Hot Air Balloon Yarn Craft Step by Step Directions
Begin by forming the shapes needed for the hot air balloon out of cardboard.
We used a bowl to form our circle. You can make yours any size. You’ll also need 2 strips from the cardboard and a rectangle shape.
Form a few small slits along the edges of the circle.
Now, insert one end of yarn into one of the slits. We also used tape to make sure it was secure.
And begin wrapping. Insert yarn into the slits as you go around. Wrap until the cardboard is covered to your liking. Then insert the other end into a slit, as well.
Next, use the brown marker to draw cross hatch marks on the rectangle shape basket.
Glue the strips on either side of the rectangle shape.
Then, apply glue to the ends of the strips and gently tuck under the yarn, securing to the cardboard.
Such a fun hot air balloon craft! We had a great time making ours and hope you’ll enjoy making yours, too.
