Craft Stick Handprint Patriotic Gnome Craft

Whether for Memorial Day or for the 4th of July, this Craft Stick Handprint Patriotic Gnome Craft is a really fun, crafty way for kids to celebrate and commemorate. Gather craft sticks, some patriotic colors, and trace those little handprints.

Now, I know gnomes usually have white beards. Or so they would lead you to believe. But I think our gnomes dyed their beards for the holidays. To be extra festive. You can always make yours with white beards, too, but the extra pop of patriotic color is always fun.

Handprint Patriotic Gnome Craft

To make our handprint gnomes you will need regular craft sticks, 9 per gnome. You will also need acrylic paint in red, white, and blue, cardstock in red, white, and blue for the beards, a 1” circle paper punch, a star paper punch, scissors, and a glue stick.

Craft supplies needed.

  • Regular craft sticks
  • Acrylic paint – red, white, blue
  • Cardstock – red, white, blue, we also used silver
  • 1” circle paper punch
  • Star paper punch
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

Patriotic Gnome Craft Step by Step Directions

Begin by painting your craft sticks in patriotic colors.

Paint craft sticks.

You will need 9 craft sticks per gnome. We knew we were making a few gnomes, so we painted a bunch of craft sticks at once. Let the paint dry completely.

Trace handprint.

While the paint is drying, trace a handprint on red, white, or blue cardstock. We also used silver. You will need two handprints for each gnome.

Cut out handprints.

Cut out the handprints.

Glue handprints side by side. Punch out a circle nose and glue it in place, as well.

Next, glue the handprints side by side. Also, punch a circle from white cardstock and glue in the top center of the handprints.

Glue 7 craft sticks together.

Now, the easiest way we glue craft sticks together is on a scrap piece of cardstock cut to size. Glue 7 craft sticks facing vertically.

Glue 2 more craft sticks horizontally along bottom for brim.

Then, glue 2 more craft sticks horizontally for the brim of the hat.

Glue hat to handprints above nose.

Glue the hat to the handprints, above the nose.

Punch stars and glue in place.

Finally, punch stars out of white cardstock and glue wherever you’d like.
